In this reflection, the students were asked to rate the difficulty of the assignment on a scale of 1-10, where 10 was the most difficult. Then, they were to describe the strategy they used to answer the CARs Questions in the textbook, and finally, to evaluate how well those strategies worked.
Next, they were to write a brief response in which they chose which of two societies they would rather live in and why: Society A with a large immobile population, that manipulated their environment, had domesticated animals and plants, difficult labor, had Men in charge, raised animals and grew plants. Society B has a small mobile population that lived within an existing environment., utilized existing wild animals and plants for food, required less work, had equality between the sexes, relied on hunting game and fish and collecting berries and roots.
Finally, we started watching a 10 minute video from Crash Course World History about the Agricultural Revolution, (Beware, there is a vaguely inappropriate joke in here...) stopping every two minutes or so to propose writing prompts such as:
1. Describe how foragers/hunters lived and why humans settled by water.
2. Where did agriculture begin and why did humans use it?
3. What is the main problem with agriculture?
4. Explain an argument for how agriculture began.
5. In your opinion, was the invention of agriculture a good thing?
