Today was the joyous Honors Assembly, and I was very, very proud to present the students who have really driven themselves to achieve a higher standard. (I was also proud of many students who have really started to show that they can work towards success.)

Either is fine. it is mostly about what the most efficient way is to show that you understand it and can explain it. If you use a direct quote, the context needs to be pretty clear that you know what the quote actually means...

For the note cards, does it have to be exactly 30 or can it be less
