Just a quick update. Today was primarily our introduction to Article One of the Constitution: the Legislative Branch. We made about the same progress in each class, but the major puzzle pieces are these: how exactly do laws get passed? How exactly do people become members of Congress? What and why are there the differences between the Senate and the House? And why on earth does the representation in a representative democracy not actually represent the demographics of the democracy it purportedly represents? (I just reread it, and I think that may be the most enjoyable sentence I've ever typed!)
In all classes, we also got to one of the most interesting parts or elements of the Constitution in my opinion...the idea that in many ways, each independent branch is integrated into the other branches. This is a part of the process of checking or limiting the alternate branches of government. In particular, I'm thinking of the presence of a member of the executive branch within the legislative branch. I'm not going to give it away here, but those of you in class certainly know what I mean...or who. If you weren't here, go check out the presentation. Think: president.
Check out the PowerPoint and handouts on the site. We'll spend more time on that tomorrow.
Science took a back seat due to computer problems. The pH/Food Safety CAR has been pushed back to being due Tuesday.
I had to cancel my study session because I had unwittingly double-booked myself for a departmental meeting. I'll host that study hall tomorrow, and we'll do retakes next week. It is for this reason I will try to be understanding when you as students make mistakes. And by understanding, I mean compassionate. And by that, I mean I'll sympathize verbally while I continue to hold you to a very high standard. I shouldn't have made that error. I apologize to everyone inconvenienced.
