I'll tell you...the new job is pretty fun, and I'm actually enjoying writing the new curriculum. I'm also looking forward to next semester, and getting the chance to do it all again, but better. Thanks to everyone who has sent a comment. And don't forget to ask a few random questions...I always enjoy a break from the routine to talk about something else!

Braces literally do what they say. They brace. By applying pressure to the teeth, they can force the roots into a slightly different alignment. The problem is that this process needs to be done super slowly (trying to simply force the teeth into a "straight" alignment would probably break them) and that it is reversible. One reason braces can stay on for a long time is to allow the teeth to "settle" into their new configuration, so they are unlikely to revert to their crooked state. It could be worse. For some people, their teeth are bad enough that they need a permanent retainer to keep their teeth straight, even after the braces are off. (Such as in my wife's case...)

Sorry to hear that. I hope they at least discussed how they work, in terms of how they're like tiny springloaded mechanisms. I always loved that stuff.

Science Fair update: I managed to get a sample size of 75, so a pretty good amount. MY results show that the composites were mostly considered more attractive than the normal faces, with one exception. It was definitely fun to do, so I'm happy. Of course, now I have until tomorrow to get materials/procedures, results, tables, graphs/charts, error analysis, and future studies done. Not fun, especially since I have a stomach bug or something. SB update: Tryouts are not until December, due to Ms. Wiechec's involvement with fan club. Shouldn't be a problem, though, since pretty much everyone from last year that hasn't graduated is planning on doing it again. I just hope we get a newbie with extensive knowledge of sports, since Ian's obviously not here anymore and I have no clue about anything involving physical activity. Hope you can come to a meet sometime! How's life? Your wife? The baby? Have an awesome school year! :)

Awesome! I shared some of what you were up to with some colleagues (basically bragging about a former student) and they were quite impressed.

Don't worry about the baby. You're going to be a fabulous dad! (Maybe it will get your voice…hee hee!)

This sounds vaguely familiar. I can even envision the cross expression on your face.

What makes cats so adorable, and how did they evolve/get domesticated from larger wild cats like tigers and lions? (I thought of this because I am attempting to type up my abstract for Sci Fair and Meow-Fluff, my cat, keeps walking on my keyboard cutely while reminding me of a tiger on the prowl…)
