There is no homework to speak of: in science, we briefly discussed further questions about our current science projects, which were overall quite excellent. In social studies, we talked about what we've learned so far about the European explorers, and why they explored and conquered so well. Then, we worked on answer reading strategy (which we will be using in science as well) for note taking. This was cleverly called "the flip" by Nico in 3rd period. Basically, it consists of reading a short passage, flipping the text so you can't see it, and writing down the basic idea as you remember it. Some people seemed to remember more than others, and some of us seemed really stuck on trying to write out a whole sentence, but in general people were doing a great job of writing ideas in their own words.
We sued this on chapter 15 of The First Americans text, which I sadly cannot post here. (Overall, this chapter addresses Christopher Columbus: his early influences, the current technology and events that led to his first voyage.) Tomorrow, we'll read through chapter 16, and then move on to taking the formative assessment for the assessment coming up in two weeks.
By the way, sorry for the long delay in this post. A glamorous old friend who is a world traveler happened to be in town today, so I went straight from work to dinner and then went on to "hang up" for a while, as I believe the hep cats are saying these days.
Bon soir!
